Talk about an accelerated startup process. It was just last October that business major Casey Rondinella ‘14 first connected with his business partner, computer science major Sahil Diwan ‘14, at Startup Weekend Eugene.
During the 56-hour, hands-on event, Rondinella, Diwan, and computer science student Cody Hatfield developed the prototype for Fourth Wall, a mobile application and website that gives actors an easy way to find relevant auditions.
Today, thanks to the strength of the Fourth Wall concept, Diwan is one of five finalists for Entrepreneur magazine's College Entrepreneur of 2014. Reader votes will help determine the winning entrepreneur, who will receive $5,000 in seed money. Voting closes after September 19, 2014.
Regardless of what happens in the Entrepreneur competition, Rondinella and Diwan intend to launch Fourth Wall later this fall.
Fourth Wall is not the team's only venture. In the past year, Rondinella, Diwan, and Hatfield have also launched Snappy, an application for the Macintosh that enables users to embellish photos and post them to Snapchat from their computers, rather than their mobile phones. The team uses ad revenue from Snappy to help finance the development of the Fourth Wall application. Snappy can be downloaded for free from Apple's App Store.
For Rondinella, the past year has been an exhilarating kickoff to an entrepreneurial career. “We're not going to become billionaires from this project, not even close. But it will definitely put us on the game," said Rondinella.
